Shoe Porn: Puma Roma Lace Boots

Already this winter there has been enormous amounts of snowfall across the country. Its hard to find boots that you can wear that are durable yet stylish. There are always your standard Timberlands, but those aren't for everyone, especially if you like your shoes pop and say something! I've been looking for something this season that was a little different, I really hadn't seen anything on the market that spoke to me in regards to style and usable durability. So I had to go back to my reliable standby the Puma Roma Boots, which came out in 07'.  No matter if there is snow or slush, the already treated leather protects you from getting cold and wet. If you can find a pair of these online or elsewhere, I highly recommend coping a pair.

Way Back Play Back: "Scratch"

We continue with our documentary series on the 'elements of hip hop" with our fourth and final element, " the DJ", without them there would be no beat to our sound, thus no MCees to rap over the track, and no bboys and bgirls to get down on the floor. The documentary "Scratch" talks about the history of the Dj and where they fit in the foundation of hip hop. The film starts of in the early days in the Bronx with the block parties with Dj Kool Herc to the turntablist extraordinaire Dj Qbert, this film is definitely and oldie but goodie, peep it out.

Stumble Upon Goodness:Coming Home

I wanted to put this short documentary up about going back to Africa to find your roots. As a person of African decent a lot of us dream of going back to Africa to find oneself and learn more about our original culture and heritage. As a black man living in the America I always wanted to see what it would be like to be a in a predominately black country. A country that doesn't discriminate against you or prejudge you because of your color. A place where I can just walk down the street and people not think that I pose some kind of imagined threat. In Africa the black man is welcomed, and for those who are trying to find some peace of mind and a sense of self, I highly recommend going there as a spiritual pilgrimage for yourself. Here is a short documentary that I found that talks about going back to Africa, particularly Ghana where the great majority of the African slave trade took place and where we as a black people were dispersed around the Americas. This mini documentary talks about the up and downs of being an "expat" in Ghana,  while trying to find a sense of belonging in another country. Enjoy!

Way Back Play Back: "The Freshest Kids" A History of the B-Boy

Back again with another hip hop movie classic. We want to continue our exploration into the  4 elements of hip hop, since as we've said before hip hop, at least mainstream hip hop has forgotten its history, and is falling from its foundation. Young people growing up right now have no clue of origins of this multi-billion dollar industry. The movie "The Freshest Kids" gives a history of Breakdancing, starting in the streets in the Bronx to where it is today. This for all the B-boys and B- girls out there and all lovers of Breakdancing enjoy!

Need To Know:James Christos "Kill The Radio"

What happens if you keep asking politely and you keep getting a no? What happens when you keep backing a dog into a wall? Eventually that dog will bite. There is only so much that people will take and will revolt and take what is their's and so you have a revolution. There is only so much bullshit that you can hear on the radio. There are only a certain amount of no's you can hear, to get your music played on local stations. That you say fuck you and your radio station, we don't need you and we will use another media source. And so here it is, internet and satellite radio here to save us all from the same ten shitty songs on the radio. Our friend James Christos feels the same way and decided to make a song about it and direct it to  Kansas City's "hot 103 jams" its called "Kill The Radio" take a listen if you feel the same way.

Shoe Porn: Clark Wallabee X Atmos

Ever since Ghostface made them popular a few years back "Wallabee's" besides Timberlands seem to be one of the only non-sneaker that hip hop culture has embraced. Maybe its because the Wallabee's have such a classic cool but basic look. The company Atmos switched them up a little and got them ready for the winter season by adding some red/black or green/black plaid flannel patterns to really bring them out again. If they Wallabee's didn't catch your eye the first time around, this time they just might do it.

Way Back Play Back: "Freestyle The Art of Rhyme"

Wednesday has come again and its time for another "Way Back Play Back" movie. This week I want to present " Freestyle The Art of Rhyme". It seems to me since hip hop/rap has gone mainstream at least what you hear on the radio and on TV, that many people have lost sight or had no idea about the elements of this genre we call Hip Hop. I had a conversation with a girl the other day and she said she was a rapper but didn't no the difference between hip hop and rap nor knew the elements of hip hop. So I feel that we need to keep putting up movies/ documentaries that talk about the history of hip hop, to build knowledge and keep the original movement of hip hop alive. With that said this documentary explores the art of freestyling a very important part of being an MCee. It features Mos Def, Biggie, Tupac, The Roots, and more. Enjoy

Shoe Porn:Android Homme Propulsion II

It is always great to come across some fresh kicks from a new brand that you haven't seen before. As some of you all know I am a special fan of Supras right now but I'm definitely willing to explore different options. While surfing the net to find new shoes that make a statement, I stumbled upon these beauties from Android Homme the "Propulsion II". That futuristic look with the hightop strap and the black and white "Star Trooper" type colorway are pretty fresh for next year. You can coop a pair for about $150 on their website http://www.androidhomme.com/

Way Back Play Back: "Beat Street"

Lately since we have had our weekly "Way Back Play Back" old school hip hop based movies segment. I've been on the search for more and more classics that I haven't gotten a chance to see yet. When I was younger, I wasn't a big movie buff, I spent most of my days outside playing. Also, we didn't have cable to see random movies on TV. So I've had to catch up here and there. The film "Beat Street" is one of those Hip Hop cult classics that I hadn't gotten a chance to see yet and finally found it online and have it here for you all. The movie takes place in Bronx, New York in the early 80's. Its about 2 brothers one is an aspiring Dj and the other one who is younger, is a bad ass breaker and there friends trying to get into the club scene in Manhattan by bringing hip hop culture to the paying audience. The movie features a lot of sick break dancing sets from pioneer break dancing crews: Rock Steady Crew, Magnificent Force, and New York Breakers. If you like old school hip hop nostalgia then you'll definitely like this.

Way Back Play Back: "Before the Music Dies"

As we close up this year having been bombarded with snap and pop music, Soulja Boy, and the death of auto tune, what is next on the corporate menu? More than likely the same force fed bullshit hoping to sell you some Mcdonald's, CocaCola, and hair relaxer on the side. With only a hand full of corporations owning the radio stations across the nation, that is what you should expect, unfortunately. The days of good music found on the radio are damn near gone. In this video we present this week entitled " Before the Music Dies" written in 2007, it talks about how the record business has became its own monster and how the internet took over, and the future of mainstream music. This is a very interesting documentary, I highly recommend checking it out.

Hot to Def

So I've noticed that women treat animal print like the big tit blonde in a bar- it's cliche, we openly question the appeal, but would give our left ovary to pull off the look and the attention it brings. So in season where the sky is gray, the ground muddy, and the available outwear is equally as droll, some ferocity is much needed to break up cold weather sloth. Try a print dress under a solid men's blazer for cocktails, or striped clutch to spice up a LBD for a holiday party.

Still convinced that designers should save the leopard or zebra for Halloween or PETA? Just remember that all over highlight and D implants are kicking your wool knits and Uggs boots equivalents of an honest education and own bar tabs ass. Go get em tiger, meow.
