Metropalife Proudly presents our Pink Panther Party with musical styles from the incredible Marcus Shadden in town from Chicago. This will be a night to remember. We will be celebrating the undeniably cool panther and everything that is sexy but better in pink. We will have pink cocktails, pink decor, pink attire, and Pink Panther Cartoons! This will be a grown and sexy event so come dressed to impress in your hottest pink outfit. This event will take place Thursday September 2, at Gusto Lounge. The party begins promptly at 10pm. Graffiti Verite' is a unique documentary exploring the urban, subcultural world of the graffiti art. There are interviews with 24 graffiti artists from Los Angeles discussing their art as displayed first and foremost in the street, but now also in galleries, on stage and even in cyberspace. The artists, male and female representing a variety of ages and ethnic groups, speak honestly about the graffiti art movement: it's history, ideas, motivations and cultural impetus and impact.

This week's Way Back Play Back is a special favorite of ours at Metropalife. If you haven't gotten it by now we love dance clubs and nightlife. The club that set the bar for outrageous and extreme parties was the world famous Studio 54 in New York in the 70's. I'm sure many of you like myself are too young to have experienced the Mecca of all nightclubs, and have only seen brief clips of it here and there. The movie we are going to play tells the rise and fall of the most popular club in the world, told by a fictional staff member. This movie is awesome, especially for our die hard partiers out there. The film stars actors Mike Myers, Selma Hayek, and Ryan Phillippe. Check it out and enjoy.

Way Back Play Back: "The Buena Vista Social Club"

This week's Way Back Play Back movie is slightly different from others cause we are playing a film based on the music of Salsa vs our usual Hip Hop or Electronic Music based films. Today's flick is about a group of older Cuban musicians whose talents had been virtually forgotten following Castro's takeover of Cuba. They are brought out of retirement by Ry Cooder, who travelled to Havana in order to bring the musicians together, resulting in triumphant performances of extraordinary music, and resurrecting the musicians' careers.
